Nuremberg International Toy Fair 2026

The new scale modeling year begins with the now classic Nuremberg International Toy Fair, which is currently underway, where major manufacturers are showcasing their new products for 2026. And this year's edition is proving to be truly prolific in terms of new releases, including some surprises, according to SpotModel staff covering the event.

Tamiya presents the reeditions of several references from the Mini Cooper Mk.I, the Porsche 934 Vaillant, the Group 5 Ford Capri, and the Honda RS1000 Endurance Racer and Yamaha RZV500R motorcycles. But above all, they have captivated us with an unexpected new release: the powerful and elegant Honda CB1000F, a roadster that captures the spirit of the 80s and continues the legacy of Honda's CB designation.

Revell, for its part, has surprised everyone with two new releases. Unlike their previous Formula 1 models, which were 1/24 scale, their next two releases, the McLaren MCL39 and the RB21, will be 1/20 scale. They're part of their Click-System range, but F1 enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the addition of these two modern-era single-seaters. And there's more: for supercar lovers, a scale model of the stunning Mercedes AMG GT63 is on the way; and for fans of the Fast and Furious saga, Brian's Nissan R34 is coming as a 1/16 scale model.

And what about the agreement between Ducati and Pocher? Well, it's already borne fruit with the launch of the spectacular Ducati Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition. And we're told there's also a partnership with Ferrari...

It's been a long, long time since Tameo delighted us with a 1/24 scale model, right? Well, a few weeks ago they announced the release of the Ferrari 312T, a beautiful twelve-cylinder machine with which Lauda won the 1975 Italian F1 Grand Prix, in addition to being crowned World Champion for the first time.

The first units of the model kit have arrived at SpotModel, and the boss's hand is shaking: a full-color manual, meticulously detailed white metal parts, vinyls for the seatbelts, a ton of photo-etched parts, springs, metal parts, brass parts, rubber tires with the Goodyear logos embossed on them, 3D-printed parts, and so on and so forth... Without a doubt, we can say that this is the first time we've seen an European product of such high quality. Bravo, Tameo!

Wait a minute! We just detected that one unit is missing from the stock just as the boss was running out the door of SpotModel's warehouse... Coincidence? XD

Tons of news

At the Nuremberg Toy Fair, we were told that Italeri would be reissuing several trucks during 2026, but the big surprise is that they're ALREADY available... Why is it a surprise? Because Italeri's product availability and launch schedules are usually separated in time, sometimes even infinitely... So we were delighted to receive the news, and we can confirm that next week half a dozen reeditions of classic Italeri trucks will be available again on SpotModel shelves.

The second big news of the week comes from Model Factory Hiro with the 1/12 scale reediton of none other than the Ferrari 312 T3. We don't have confirmation yet of the number of units we'll receive, but it will almost certainly be a limited run. Keep an eye out for alerts because they're going to sell out fast.

Jabbeke 2026

How exciting!! There's still a week to go, but for several days now we've been feeling a certain nervousness because the date is approaching for one of the events that holds a special place in our scale modeler's heart, and which has been a must-attend event for eight years now!!

The event we're referring to is Jabbeke On-the Road 2026, held in early March in the town of Jabbeke, very close to Bruges, Belgium. It's an exclusive event for civilian modelers, where the best modelers from all over Europe gather to compete, showcase their creations, and share our true passion: drinking beer while talking about model making... XD

Several pavilions filled with meters and meters of tables where you can enjoy thousands of model kits and chat with modelers, sharing techniques and little secrets. Without a doubt, it's the event that every civilian modeling enthusiast should attend at least forty or fifty times in their life, to be captivated (as we were) by the atmosphere and the energy that Peter and his entire team put in, year after year, to make the On-the Road Show a success.

We love this format! At SpotModel we're already hooked and, honestly, we don't want to detox...

Incompetence

You know those times when you go into a store asking for something extremely simple, and suddenly you realize that the person serving you doesn't really know what they're doing or isn't very keen? You know right away that things aren't going to be as quick or easy as you thought, right? Well, that's how we felt last Monday!

The internet is a hostile environment, and servers are constantly under attack in a variety of ways. One way is to flood the server with billions of requests from all over the world, to the point where it crashes and stops responding (or becomes extremely slow). Normally, our system administrator (with over 30 years of experience) can resolve this in 5 minutes. But this time the attack was so severe that it couldn't be resolved remotely, and we had to contact our hosting provider to ask them to fix it directly on the machine.

At that very moment, they started passing the buck, making up excuses to avoid addressing the problem, and we immediately knew we were dealing with someone who either doesn't know how to do their job or doesn't want to. After arguing for a while, we finally got them to get to work. "They were hired, so they must know how to do their job, right?" we thought... Totally wrong! Minutes later, a complete system update started, our server crashed, we lost all connectivity, the website stopped responding, and everything else you experienced from Monday morning until Tuesday morning unfolded.

Our immediate response was: "Please leave everything as it was, restore the connection and forget about this... we'll do your work for you." But it was too late: it took them almost a day to go back to having done nothing, and in the process we lost your patience, hundreds of orders, and a whole day's work.

In short: a thousand apologies for leaving you without your favorite model shop for almost 24 hours, and huge thanks all of you for your emails and concerns. After this, we will migrate our website to a new hosting provider with more competent staff to try and ensure that SpotModel can serve you seamlessly and forever

We still have smiles on our faces after enjoying an unforgettable weekend with friends at Jabbeke, with the great family formed by the best civilian vehicle scale modelers from all across Europe.

Among all the memorable things that happened, today we want to focus on the new products that Decalcas showed exclusively to the attendees of the event, and specifically in the upgrade sets they have prepared for the Yamaha YZR-M1'07 by Beemax.

With these new products, we can replace all the parts that lack the exhaustive detail level we like to give our models. According to Decalcas, the Beemax model is very similar to the excellent Tamiya models we've come to expect, although it has its limitations in terms of small details that we're already familiar with: those metal screws for joining different parts, a solid chain, lack of detail in the brake calipers, clutch, footpegs, chain tensioners... What can we tell you that you don't already know?!

Now we can achieve any level of precision and realism we desire, with the extreme detail typical of Decalcas. A little big example: the brake calipers have individual screws down to the last one, so you can simply enjoy assembling your model. Amazing!!!

Our dearest scale modelers, we are pleased to invite you to ModelMotor 2026, organized by SpotModel, which will be held on Saturday May 23rd in Madrid, in a comfortable location where we will enjoy a day of scale model building, building, building, and more building. Well, they'll also be providing food and drinks, but you can skip that part if you want. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to attend, because it's a very special event, especially because of the people you'll meet.

The idea is to bring as many models as you like, finished or unfinished; anything goes. You can arrive whenever you want and leave whenever you feel like it, and nobody will touch your work. Remember, there are no prizes, trophies, diplomas, or souvenir lighters. As with the previous edition, space is limited, so we recommend that if you want to sign up, don't leave it until the last day. We've been saying this for quite some time now, we already sensed it, in fact we understand that it's a logical evolution, and that little by little it will become more and more common. Soul

The year was 1967 and Ford took the victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Sport category with the GT40 Mk IV. The previous year they achieved the famous hat trick with the Mk II, as the competitors could not match the performance of the enormous 7L engine.

Faced with the dominance of the GT40s in the last two years at the mother of all endurance races, the international federation tried to clip their wings by changing the regulations and limiting the engines to 5L for 1968. The only way Ford could compete without having to build a completely new car was to resurrect its old Mk I with a 4.9L Small Block V8 engine. And contrary to what the federation wanted, Ford returned to victory in the next two editions with the iconic GT40s in Gulf liveries.

So much for the historical context; now it's time to talk about model kits. XD Around 1991, Fujimi released 1/24 scale versions of the GT40 from 1968 and 1969, of which every modeler has assembled half a dozen or so, between reissues and third-party decals. A beautiful model, yes, but lacking the "soul of victory", the key element that cemented the legend of the oval brand. A model where we all feel something is missing: the engine... Until now!

That's right! DAB Models has announced a detailing and upgrade set with their usual excellent quality, which includes the engine reproduced down to the last screw. Not happy with that, they've also added the rear chassis, wheels, brake system, radiators, and everything necessary to open the front and rear hoods.

The wait is over: Fujimi brought us the body, DAB Models gave us the soul, and SpotModel is going to put it on your building station.

There are combinations of letters and numbers that mean nothing to many, yet for a select few they evoke a great story. Two letters, two numbers, an era, a color, an engine, a driver...

Because the Ligier Matra JS17 was no ordinary car. In the midst of a decade when turbo engines were beginning to show their teeth, Ligier continued to rely on the veteran and ferocious naturally aspirated Matra V12, with all that it entailed: sound, character, fuel consumption, personality... and a very old-school style of racing.

The 1981 season was a great one for the French team, with seven podium finishes, two victories, and a fourth-place finish in the World Constructors' Championship. 46 weeks

It's been a whopping 46 looooong weeks since the first review of the Toyota Yaris GR, announced by Belkits as their next release, first appeared at SpotModel in our newsletter #666. Another way to measure the long wait could be to count the number of scale model kits we've finished since then, surely a few, or maybe many.

But let's focus on what we need to focus on: we now have at SpotModel the scale model kit of the Toyota Yaris GR that won the 2023 Rally Mexico, and inside its beautiful box we find a ton of decal sheets, several photo-etched parts, a mask sheet, seven sprues, and an extensive full-color manual. We've taken a close look at the kit and what we liked MOST is the body, exquisitely moulded as a single piece of white plastic: you'll have to look at it over and over and over again and keep looking at it until you manage to see the moulding marks, if you're even able to see them.
