As everyone knows, we love talking about novelties, both about the new references that we receive at SpotModel, as well as about the references that manufacturers announce for the coming months. But this time we go sooooo much further: we are going to talk about some products that have not yet been even announced... What do you think?

Well, we still don't know the reference numbers, so we can't upload them to the SpotModel website yet, but that's no problem for us to tell you what LB Production is working on. To begin with, they are preparing a transkit to build the Mercedes Benz AMG GT3 EVO based on the Tamiya model, designed and produced with 3D technology. And to continue, related to that transkit they are going to offer us various liveries, each one more amazing and mindblowing than the other: Theodore Racing, Mooneyes, Good Smile, Mann Filter, WeatherTech... Applause, please, these guys are absolutely on fire!!!

Now you can start making room on the shelf like we are, because the next few months are going to be really stressful. XD

King of the 308

There are only a few Ferrari 308s that have participated in competition, but the history of some of them is really exciting, or at least curious. We are going to talk about the first unit of a Ferrari 308 GTB that arrived to the US. Ferrari had problems in the American market due to the new safety and emissions regulations, and such problems prevented that the successor of the Daytona (the 365 GT4 BB) could even be sold in the US. In 1975, when Ferrari introduced the 308 GTB, the owner of the Ferrari dealer in San Francisco Ray Ramsey used an exemption in the legislation to be able to import one to his country before the first official unit arrived to the US.

Ramsey bought the 308 in May 1976 from a dealer in Rome, and invited the Road & Track magazine to test drive the car. However, by the time the magazine hit the newsstands, the 308 had already crashed at another Ferrari event, and Ramsey had to decide what to do next. The answer was not long in coming: he brought together several famous friends, a racing team and a crashed Ferrari that could not be legally registered for road use, and decided to turn the 308 into a race car. What comes to be a "scratch" build but in 1/1 scale. XD

The Ferrari was rebuilt and adapted for racing, with Paul Newman as driver and Budweiser as sponsor. Raced in the SCCA series, the car proved to be really fast but unreliable, so at the end of the season it was totally rebuilt to race again in 1979. Then the 308 was impounded by US customs agents at the worst possible time: an important sponsor party with the Ferrari at center stage. No one on the team had realized that the Ferrari had stayed much longer than the legal time since its arrival to the United States. Ramsey had imported the car on a six-month exemption, a period that expired several years earlier, so the result was that the Ferrari sat in a garage, deteriorating on its trailer for nearly ten years.

Wing screws

Perhaps it is not seen, but it is there. And if it is there, it is clear that it must be placed, precisely because it is there. Right?

Let's explain it a little better: look at the picture in this newsletter. what do you see? Yes, a beautiful 917, one of the most successful and beautiful racing machines in the history of motorsports. Now open your drawer, pick the 10x magnifying glass and look at the picture again. What do you see now? Now you see it even though you missed it before, right?!? That's what this is all about.

The fellas at Decalcas walk through life with a 10x magnifying glass in hand, looking and re-looking, and they have noticed that many racing cars use "wing screws" as bonnet closures, as is the case with the 917 in the picture. PrintLab is back on track!!!

As we told you a few weeks ago, SpotModel's PrintLab needed a pit stop. Since then we have replaced all the digital technology of our decal print production equipment, upgraded printing software, and run hundreds of tests to achieve the best balance between decal thickness, gloss, and color coverage. It has not been easy at all!!! But we think that the improvement achieved has been really remarkable.

What will you notice in the new PrintLab products? The first thing is the paper, which we have changed to white. The next thing you will notice is that the tones, especially the reds-oranges-yellows are much more intense and saturated. And if you take the magnifier glass and compare it with the previous prints, you can clearly see how the detail has taken a big step forward, especially in the black motifs. The new decals adapt better to curved surfaces, they are softer, brighter, thinner...

Right now we are racing against the clock validating all previous designs and printing all the jobs that were pending. Not only that, but we are also reprinting all the designs that were in stock. So, we ask for your patience, your PrintLab will soon be in your hands!
