Kreidler

Motor racing has become nowadays way more technical, up to really high levels, and there are only a handful of brands that have enough engineering power and properly sized pockets to be able to continue developing cutting-edge racing machines. But a few years ago things were very different, there were many "garage brands", many small manufacturers and many small engineering teams who were capable of manufacturing really fast and efficient devices. In this big bag of brave brands there is one based in Germany that we especially like: Kreidler.

These guys started in 1951 manufacturing small mopeds and won no less than 9 world championships in the 50cc category, which is not a small thing to say. Their very light bikes flew around the track, and by the end of the race the rider could practically carry the bike over one shoulder.

We are in luck because Brach Model, with their delicious resin models, announces the 50cc Kreidler van Veen that with the number #45 led the legendary Ángel Nieto to win the Motorcycle World Championship in 1975. Superb!!

A wonder that we will receive shortly at SpotModel and that, of course, the boss is going to build. Because... who can resist this?

Volkswagen T2

It's been a few months since the supply of USCP products stopped due to the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia, but little by little we are finally getting back to normal. With many difficulties, but joining efforts, normal activity is being restored and currently the logistics are beginning to be moderately operational. So we are very happy to say that we have been able to restore USCP supplies to our warehouse.

The whole product catalog is not yet available, but there are a good number of references, among which is worth mentioning the new transkit to make the classic Volkswagen Transporter T2 in Pick-Up version based on the Revell scale model.

That said, and although all involved parties are doing everything possible so that you have your USCP products on your workbench, no one can guarantee that there won't be any complications or supply stoppages in the future. That is why at SpotModel we recommend that if any USCP products are on your list of future purchases, do not take too long to place your order.

Dreams Matter

There are wonderful people who take really seriously what they do, because they know that behind every scale model there is always an actual vehicle and that if all this exists it's thanks to their dedication, to their many sleepless hours and to the limitless passion they put on each of the pieces and parts until they make that dream of perfection come true. This, taken to the extreme, means that being part of their dreams actually takes our sleep away... This is how the Ducati guys tell us in the video and this is how Decalcas felt when they decided to launch today their newest dream: the chain for the Ducati Superleggera V4 in 1/12 scale by Tamiya.

They have designed in great detail the different elements that make up the whole chain/gear assembly and all their accessory elements, and they deliver everything separately thus making the paint work a piece of cake. Let us insist, everything comes with the extreme detail with which Decalcas is capable of designing and manufacturing, which, as you all know, is light years away from the standards of other manufacturers. For instance, you can see the gap between the side plate and rivets in each and every chain link, and all the holes, pins and marks are detailed in both front and rear sprockets; even the fixing nut to the shaft has the clip that prevents its loss when it reaches the high turning speeds of this Ducati designed beast. And all this with a really simple assembly since it is designed with the scale modeler in mind

Flying elephants

Have you ever seen an elephant flying? Even more, have you even heard it doing so closely? Those of us who have had the opportunity to see elephants fly and listen to them up close can confirm that they are truly brutal machines.

Do the math: a Kamaz 43509 weighs just under 10 tons, each of its wheels is around 150 kilograms, they generate more than 1,000hp, they measure almost 7 meters long and more than 3 meters high... and in order to prevent them to fly to the moon and beyond they are limited to a maximum speed of 130 km/h. Even so, when one of them passes by just a few meters away, flying over the dunes, your breath just stops... trust the word of this geek!

Plasticard

Who has not used plasticard four hundred and twenty times to improve the hood of a sports car, to create anti-roll bars on a GT, to modify the spoiler of an F1, to add details to a motorcycle engine or to build a whole truck from scratch? We've all used it, right?

The boss is a big consumer of plasticard, he uses it for everything. He's so sick that we think he even makes sandwiches with the material... XD

A few weeks ago he received some product samples from AK Interactive, since these guys have acquired a plastic injection machine and launched a plasticard-type product line in both polystyrene and ABS. Needless to say, the boss has gone crazy and has ordered a box of each reference for his personal use... He's really excited!

Soon we will receive the first supply, focused on solid rods, and later the whole AK catalog will arrive: the hollow rods, profiles, sheets... awesome!!!

Tambay

A few days ago we lost Patrick Tambay, a great driver and one of those privileged people who raced for the "Scuderia". After making his debut in 1977 with Surtees, he went on and drove for the Theodore Racing team in the following race. Later he had a modest period at McLaren in 1978 and 1979, and ended up joining Ferrari as a substitute for Giles Villeneuve after his tragic loss at the Zolder Grand Prix in 1982. It was precisely at Ferrari where he obtained his best results, achieving two victories and being a participant in the Ferrari constructors' titles of 1982 and 1983.

After two more years in the Renault team and a last one in Haas (which was nothing similar to the current one), he concludes his journey in F1, successfully racing in several editions of the Paris-Dakar. And let's not forget his participations at Le Mans with Renault, Rondeau or Jaguar, in addition to his two Can-Am titles. But despite such an extensive and varied racing career, without a doubt his greatest fame and his memory is associated with his participation with Ferrari at the controls of that gorgeous 126C3.

We are ending the year, and although in some matters (like COVID-19) it has heavily improved compared to the previous ones, we hope that in 2023 we will continue to improve in other things... In 2021 we end up wishing we could attend more scale modeling contests and meetings, and that desire is gradually being fulfilled, but we want more, many many more XD

Regarding the novelties that the new year holds for us, last week we left you with the mistery, but you can now see at SpotModel that Tamiya has announced the release of the Gordon Murray Automotive Type 50 in 1/24 scale, in addition to the reedition of the Porsche 935 in 1/20 scale... Yay!!! And a few days ago it was Heller which surprised us with veeeeeery cool news such as the reedition of the Citroën DS3 WRC.

Farewell

The 2023 starting flag has just come down and we already have a lot of interesting news at the head of the race. The reissue of the Tamiya Tyrrell Ford 003 just arrived, and so did the beautiful Bugatti Type 35B in 1/12 scale by Italeri and the new 2022 Nissan Fairlady Z RZ34 by Tamiya. In the first turns we came across a lot of decals from LB Production and SK Decals, as well as new KMP references for the Ford Sierra by D.Modelkits. So we are going to smash hard on the glue and the airbrush to avoid the tasks to pile up

The sad part of this start of the year comes with the bad news that we have lost two great ones at the starting line. One has been Ken Block, who has given us so many good times with his filigrees behind the wheel of cars with marvelous decorations, and the other has been Hugo Luyten, one of the best European scale modellers, with great skills, a big smile and a huge heart.

Supergirls

We civilian scale modelers are crazy about wheels, spoilers, fairings, carburettors... and that's fantastic. They drive us crazy. And don't talk to us about any other topics, please.

That said, we're going to make an exception and this time we're going to focus our attention on the Supergirls, because two new biker girl figures in 1/12 scale by Meng Model have arrived and, to be honest, they are really amazing. This week we are walking around with a big beautiful smile on our faces... why? Have our work salaries been raised? Have our dear children gotten an A in their studies? Do we have a new car in the garage? None of that, the reason for that smile is called Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC in 1/24 scale by Belkits. Yesss!!!

It was announced nothing less than three years ago in our newsletter number 384, three long years in which Belkits has been working hard and tirelessly until finally the product is confirmed to arrive at SpotModel facilities in a few weeks.
